I’ve played with wp settings, removed most of sidebar widgets, left only search and links, also did some theme hacking and experimenting and I think this is just the look I wanted.
I see now that wordpress is really publishing platform not only blogging tool.
You can make static pages not show in menu and make homepage show also static page.
